For a GP surgery, dental practice, private clinic or specialist healthcare provider, the network is the working foundation behind patient management software, digital imaging, VoIP calls, secure Wi-Fi, printers, payments and cloud services. It needs to be reliable enough for a busy morning clinic, secure enough for sensitive information, and flexible enough to support the way your practice grows.
Healthcare practice network setup begins with the workflow
The right solution is not simply a faster broadband connection and a few wireless access points. Before equipment is selected, it helps to map how people, devices and information move around the practice.
Reception may need continuous access to booking systems, payment terminals and telephone services. Clinicians may rely on electronic patient records, cloud applications, dictation tools or diagnostic images. Practice managers need reporting, payroll and secure document storage. Each task has different requirements for speed, access and continuity.
A useful starting point is a site assessment that looks at the building layout, the number of consulting rooms, wall materials, existing cabling, internet entry points and areas where staff currently lose signal. Older premises can be particularly challenging.
